Errah's Proportion Post

Ratio
It shows the relative sizes of 2 or more values.
Ratios can be shown using ":" to separate the values.
Example:
If there are 4 girls and 3 boys the ratio could be 4:3 (girls to boys, g:b)

Rate
Compares 2 quantities measured in different units.

Example:
Proportion
A proportion is 2 equivalent fractions, ratios or rates.

Example:
72:8
18:2
because

5 hours to travel 360 kilometers is about 72km/h.

Emma saves 28 cents of every dollar that she earns.  Emma earned $75 last week.  How much money did Emma save last week?

What are the three ways you can prove that equivalent ratio statements are true?
3/4 = 12/16  or 4/9 = 16/32

Does this seem fair?  no
With what you know about proportion look and read what is in the image above.
Does it seem just and fair?  in the first photo the man only got a 40 month sentence (3 years, 4 months) for a 3b fraud whereas the man in the second photo got 15 years in prison for robbing a bank for $100 and he was the one that told the police on himself
Why have you made this choice?  because it seems like they gave the 2nd man more prison time just because he is homeless
What would you have done if you were the judge? I would've switched around their jail times

  1. The thing that I really liked on Errah's post was how she added really good examples in her definitions. Also, I really liked that she added good detailed explanations about the Social Justice Issue. The only thing on Errah's post that she may want to do next time is to make the font at the right size.
