### Jethro's Proportion Post

(Part 1)

Ratio - Ratio is the comparison from a number to other numbers

Example:

Rate - Rate compares two quantities in different units

Proportion A proportion is an equation written in the form stating that two ratios are equivalent.

Example:

(Part 2)

1) 5hours to travel 360 kilometers is about ___ km/h

5h/5 = 1h        (what you do to this side, must do to other side)
360/5 = 72

72km/h

Example:

2) Emma saves 28 cents of every dollar she earns. Emma earned \$75 last week. How much money did Emma save last week?

cents              0.28    =    ?                   1x? = 75            1x75 = 75
dollars              1            75                                       0.28x75 = 21

She saved  \$21 / \$75

(Part 3)   What are 3 ways you can prove equivalent ratios statements are true? 3  =  12    or   4  = 16
4      16           9     32

x4
3  =  12                      3 x (4) = 12
4      16                      4 x (4) = 16
x4

1 - Check Horizontally
2 - Check Diagonally
3 - Check Vertically

(Part 4)

(Part 5)

1) Does this seem fair?

I think it is not fair

2) With what you know about proportion look and read what is in the image above. Does is it seem just and fair?

I don't think it is fair. because the "first man" stole \$3 billion and was only sentenced 40 months, the "second man" stole \$100 but he told the truth on the next day and only stole it because he was homeless and hungry, he was sentenced for 15 years.

3) Why have you made this choice?

I made this choice because I don't think it is still fair because the "first man" stole \$3 billion and was only sentenced 40 months, the "second man" stole \$100 but he told the truth on the next day and only stole it because he was homeless and hungry, he was sentenced for 15 years.

4) What would you have done if you were the judge?

If I were the judge, I would only sentence the homeless man for only a few years, perhaps 2-3 years. As for the other man, I would sentence him 10-15 years.

How tall are the trees?

First I searched the average height of a                12 year old boy. (about 5ft tall)

Then I used my thumb to see how many 12 year old boy reach a tree in the picture.(3)

Then I multiplied 5 to 3 (5x3) which equals to 15, so the tree is around 15ft tall.
