Gabbey's Pay it Forward

Part 1 - What is Pay it Forward?
Pay it Forward is a movie all the grade 8's watched. It's about a boy in 7th grade who was assigned to think of an idea to change the world and put it into action. The boy's idea was to do a random act of kindness to three people and not wanting anything in return. After performing this act of kindness, you tell the person to "Pay it Forward" to other three people. Then, the three people "Pay it Forward" and the chain continues.

Part 2 -
What was your Pay It Forward act of kindness?
My Pay it Forward was to give goodie bags to the Children's Hospital Foundation to the kids. Then, we donated $5 dollars in the Children's Hospital Foundation donation box. We also bought a key chain from their gift shop and the money we spent, goes to their foundation.

Why did you choose this activity?

My Friends and I chose this activity because we thought the sick kids might have been sad or lonely, therefore we prepared goodie bags to cheer them up or to put a smile on their faces.

Who did you help?

We helped the sick kids by giving them goodie bags to put smiles on their faces.

What did you do?

We made goodie bags, containing notepads, pencils, small toys, chocolates, etc and also wrote encouraging quotes on cards, then gave them to sick kids in Children's Hospital Foundation.

When did you do you act of kindness?
I did this act of kindness on the 30th of November at lunch, with my friends, Jalaire and Bethel.

Part 3 -
How did your act of kindness go?
I think it went really well and all the people from the Children's Hospital Foundation were really kind to us.

What Happened?
We started off by going to Dollarama on the 26th of November to buy things for the kids. On the 28th, we went to Bethel's house to call the Children's Hospital Foundation to let them know we'll be doing "Pay it Forward" and we also organized the things and put them in the goodie bags. We made 16 goodie bags; 8 for boys and 8 for girls. Each bag contains a notepad, pencils, erasers, chocolates, candies, small toys, and a card with encouraging quotes. At lunch on the 30th, we went to the Hospital and dropped off the goodie bags to an employee, Tonia. Then, she asked us for permission if she could take a picture of us and post it on Facebook for people to see and to "Pay it Forward" and we agreed to do so. After, we donated $5 to their donation box and also bought a key chain from their gift shop, which the money we spent goes to their foundation.

How did you feel?
I felt amazing doing an act of kindness. Just by doing a small good deed can make a difference. I hope we put big smiles on those kids' faces.

How did the person or people react?
Tonia was happy and thankful for the goodie bags and said what we were doing was inspirational. Hopefully the kids felt the same.

Did you ask the person or people to "Pay It Forward"?
No, but Tonia took a picture of us to put in their Facebook page to let people know what we're doing and also to "Pay it Forward".

Part 4 -
Why is the idea of "Pay it Forward" important?

I think it's an important idea because it teaches people a lesson to do a random act of kindness and not wanting anything back and to make a difference.

Has your act of kindness made a difference?
Yes, I think my act of kindness has made a difference. We made a difference by giving goodie bags to sick kids, to put smiles on their faces and also donated small money to their donation box.
